Purpose: To reach consensus regarding the study of "The Role of the Federal Government in Public Education". Questions are provided by LWVUS.
Background: This study was identified by league members at Convention 2010. A committee was formed to study the history and background information. This committee formulated questions which were approved by the board of the LWVUS.
Preparation: Background information, history, papers, and consensus questions are posted on the LWVUS website (LWVUS). Simply click onto the site, click onto member and scroll down and click onto Projects and Programs. You can click on the education title on the left hand side or on to the study titled "The Role of the Federal Government in Public Education" on the right hand side.
PRIOR TO THE MEETING it will be necessary to go onto the league site and read the information about the study. The website provides a vast amount of information and it will take some time to read all of it. The consensus questions are posted so you may want to become familiar with them so you will have an idea of your positions and to formulate any questions you may have. There will be a limited time for discussion on each question so your knowledge on the subject will be a valuable asset.
Meeting: We will be trying to answer all of the study questions in a 4-5 hour period instead of 2 eight hour meetings. It is imperative that members come prepared in order to accomplish this goal. Your facilitators will be using the same information available to you and will make every attempt to be helpful during this process.
RSVP: 770-475-1559: Due to bank security, it is necessary to give a list of attendees to the bank by Friday, November 18. Please make your RSVP in a timely fashion. Thank you.
